What IS YaoiGirl?
YaoiGirl is a group made up of artists and writers, producing fanworks and original yaoi in a niche market. Everything from designs on bags and keychains to books can be bought through the website or at anime conventions attended by the members.
Our mission statement? We love yaoi. There’s not enough yaoi in English, though we also produce ours in Japanese as well, for traditional purposes, and for the otaku who has struggled through learning the language. Both of the current artists read and speak Japanese – the writers will give you a blanket stare and speak ‘fangirl’ Japanese, or the words that everyone learns if they’re into anime.
We’re diverse in the series that we enjoy, and what type of original work we produce. Some of us are into fluff, some angst, some science fiction, and some normal drama. The one thing we all have in common is that we love Japanese culture, especially anime, while recognizing all countries have their faults. Still, we’re united by the love of bishounen.
While YaoiGirl is obviously yaoi-oriented, it isn’t exclusively yaoi, nor is it exclusively adult. There are things for all ages, because anime is a kid-friendly activity. Adult content will be marked as such, and require a password – but there will at times be general design, possibly yuri, possibly het. And please, if you do not know these terms (not sure why you would even be on this site if you don’t know yaoi) then don’t try to get the passwords, especially if you are under the age to view adult materials. This is for protection – One artist has a son, and she would never dream of letting him see the more mature content, so she would never let someone else’s kid.
In the end, YaoiGirl should be a positive and fun experience, with lots of eye candy, and interesting stories. Because we love fandom, and we love the fans… we are the fans. And we’re always looking for new members, so feel free to drop a message if you’re a writer, a cosplayer, an artist, a Japanese speaker, or anything that is a ‘niche’ of those, such as typographer or colorist. Fanwork and original works needed – turn your passionate hobby into something that pays for you, because, unlike galleries that take 50%, YaoiGirl will cover the initial costs and only takes enough to cover the costs of running things – server and printing fees mostly, which one would have to pay on your own anyhow. Being part of a doujinshi circle is much easier than being a doujinshika alone, especially if you have a specialty, and that specialty is NOT writing, then scripting, then drawing, then translating, then typesetting twice, then constructing a web site, then running the promos, accepting credit cards, taking things to print, and attending as many conventions as possible.
Finally, YaoiGirl was created because circles in America are very rare. There are only a few places where yaoi books are printed, and most doujinshi circles are in Japan and do not have English copies. This results in either not being able to understand the work, but enjoying the art, or finding low-resolution scans because of rarity, and even some scanslations that are way off. Some will be posted here for download as an example of the difference between a high quality book and a lower resolution scan.
